Heavenly massage

This morning I had coffee with a friend and in the course of the conversation, he shared with me how God had been dealing with him about an issue in his life. He talked about how just a simple scripture verse had set off a series of memories and conviction over how he had fallen short in this area. He shared how the tears wouldn't stop flowing and yet he really felt God bringing about healing in that area.
I couldn't help think about the last massage I had. As the therapist worked on my sore muscles, she would find a spot that was really tight and put her finger on it. It would be so tender that it hurt, but I knew that if I would submit to the pain, take a few deep breaths and allow her to work on it, I would have more freedom of motion and more strength in the end.
Isn't that just like God? He moves over our life and when he finds that area that needs work, he puts his holy finger on it and works it out until he has us pliable and relaxed in his presence. At first it hurts. None of us like to be reminded of our sinfulness. But if we will submit and allow him to finish his work, we will find the freedom of movement and the strength that comes from getting rid of the toxins that build up in our spiritual body.
What a privilege it is to walk through this life with brothers and sisters in Christ who can live life honestly before us and allow us to see God work in their lives. It encourages me as I see others who like me, don't live life perfectly, but who desire to allow God to have his way in their everyday coming and going life.

Have thine own way, Lord
Have thine own way.
Thou art the potter, I am the clay
Mold me and make me, after thy will
While I am waiting, yielded and still

I'm becoming much more forgetful these days...I'm constantly forgetting what I walked into a room for, what I was in the middle of saying, people's names. I spend a lot of time looking for things that I've misplaced only to find they are right under my nose. Too many times I have been frantically searching for my keys, begging my kids to help me because I'm running late for an appointment, only to find they are in my pocket or in the appropriate purse pocket where I had looked 8,000 times already. I search all over my house and my car for sunglasses that I eventually find on the top of my head. (Anyone else with me here?) I spend so much valuable time searching, striving, spinning.
So often God speaks to me through the everyday things like this to teach me His truth. I feel like I spend so much time searching out His will for me...or my kids...or my friends. I want so badly just to have him come down and tell me what to do...I'll do it...just let me know what it is. But just like my lost keys or sunglasses, many times I find it right under my nose. He hasn't hidden it from me so he can amuse himself watching me on some holy scavenger hunt. He has put it in plain view...I just get so busy searching, striving, spinning that I don't even realize it's been right in front of me all along. His word says..."He has shown thee, Oh man what is good and what the Lord requires of thee...but to do justice and to love mercy and to walk humbly with thy God." That pretty much sums it up...he keeps it simple. Just like when he told the disciples that the whole law was summed up in this: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind and strength and love your neighbor as yourself.
If I would just do the things that I know He wants me to do, I believe the rest would fall into place. We are the ones who make it more complicated than it needs to be. So what is His will for my life? Love God, Love people. Simple as that...plain as the glasses on my head or keys in my hand.
By the way...the motto for our store is: Love God, Love people, Love fabric! I hope we never lose sight of that simple goal.
